PNNL Biological and Computations Sciences Facilities
A key resource of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory campus, the BCSF project compromises two research wings: the Biological Sciences Facility using laboratories for advanced genomic research focusing on advanced analytic technologies for environmental and human health applications, and the Computational Sciences Facility, housing information and visual analytics laboratories critical government missions such as detecting terrorist activity, cyber security and critical infrastructure protection.
One of only a few LEED Gold laboratories in the U.S. at the time of completion, the $77M BCSF provides common areas allowing researchers from both facilities to collaborate and share research ideas. Innovative sustainable features include an open-loop geothermal heating and cooling system and harvesting of excess heat from the computational facilities for use in heating the biological laboratories.
